Traditional Native American Approaches to Nature & Craftsmanship Workshop (Youth Workshop Series)
Date
April 25, 2025
Location
Oceanside, CA
As part of Native Pathways Youth Series Workshop, students joined our workshop for an immersive hands-on experience exploring the deep connection between Native American traditions and the natural world. Guided by Alex Osuna, a skilled artisan and cultural practitioner, participants learned about time-honored techniques for creating crafts using foraged natural materials. The workshop introduced traditional methods of making cordage from plant fibers, demonstrating how Indigenous communities have long utilized local resources for practical and artistic purposes. Attendees also learned about cordage-making, sustainable gathering practices, cultural perspectives on nature, and the significance of these skills in daily and ceremonial life.
Reen Magante (Payómkawish) also share a few words in ‘Atáaxum Pomtéela,’ one of the local Native languages, in connection with the workshop.
