SDSU Native American Center - Willow Basket Workshop

Native Pathways hosted a Willow Basket Workshop at San Diego State University’s Native American Resource Center in November, offering SDSU students an immersive cultural learning experience. During the workshop, participants explored the longstanding Native American tradition of willow basket making, gaining insight into the materials, techniques, and symbolism passed down through generations. They also learned about the many practical and cultural uses of willow baskets throughout history—from gathering and food preparation to storytelling and community identity—deepening their understanding of the craft’s significance over time.
