Reed Basket Weaving Workshop - Youth WS series sponsored by Measure X, City of Oceanside

In late December 2025, young participants gathered for an enriching afternoon of traditional reed basket weaving through Native Pathways Youth WS series, made possible by Measure X and the City of Oceanside.
Under the skilled guidance of Naomi Knox (Juaneño/Luiseño), particiapants learned the ancient craft of basket weaving, carefully weaving natural reeds into beautiful handmade baskets while connecting with Native American culture and traditions.
The class concluded with a festive celebration where participants selected gifts, wrapped them in their newly crafted baskets, and enjoyed pizza together.
The hands-on cultural experience not only taught valuable traditional skills but also fostered creativity, community connection, and an appreciation for indigenous artisan practices among Oceanside's youth.
