Mesquite Tortilla Youth Workshop with Abe Sanchez
Workshop participants learned the traditional art of making mesquite tortillas, a cherished Native American food with deep cultural roots. Using nutrient-rich mesquite flour, attendees discovered how this ancient ingredient had sustained Indigenous communities for generations. They experienced the process from mixing to cooking over the griddle and enjoyed the warm, earthy flavor of freshly made tortillas while learning about their historical and cultural significance.
Our participants made 10 dozens of tortillas!
“You are what you eat.
Changes in life are hard, but decolonizing your diet and slowly replacing your food intake by a small percent with what your ancestors ate can make you feel better physically, mentally, and spiritually.”
Abe Sanchez
