Libby Lake Community Resource Center 4700 North River Road, Suite A Oceanside, CA, 92057 Traditional Native American Gourd Rattles Workshop Kids and Youth Class & Workshop series (Ages 10 - 18) - Sponsored by Measure X, City of Oceanside Join us for a hands-on workshop exploring the rich tradition of Native American gourd rattles. These sacred instruments have been used for centuries in ceremonies, healing practices, and music. Participants will learn about the cultural significance of rattles in various Indigenous traditions, as well as the materials and techniques used to craft them. Under the guidance of an experienced instructor, attendees will select and prepare a dried gourd, clean and decorate it with natural elements, and fill it with beads, seeds, or small stones to create a unique sound. Various decoration techniques, including painting and traditional wrapping methods, will also be covered. This workshop is suitable for all skill levels and provides a meaningful opportunity to connect with Indigenous artistic traditions while creating a personalized rattle to take home. What to Expect: -A brief history and cultural significance of gourd rattles -Hands-on instruction in crafting and decorating your own rattle -Exploration of traditional materials and designs -All materials provided Who Can Attend: This workshop is part of the Kids and Youth Workshop Series and is open to ages 10 to 18.
