This engaging experience is designed to educate and inspire young participants as they explore the rich history and cultural importance of these unique percussion instruments. Used in singing, storytelling, and ceremonial dances, clapper sticks—traditionally crafted from split elderberry wood—are more than just musical tools. They hold deep significance in Native communities, serving as carriers of rhythm, tradition, and oral history. Through guided instruction, participants will learn how to craft their own clapper sticks, understand their role in Native cultural practices, and gain a deeper appreciation for the stories and songs they accompany.
